A look back at the 2010/11 season and looking ahead to next season

Post  Izaak97 on Fri Jun 03, 2011 8:22 am

With the 2010/11 season finished i'm hoping next season will be as eventful as the last for the toon.
At the start of last season Newcastle were tipped by many to plummett straight back down into the championship because of the strength of the playing squad and also the strength in depth. Newcastle proved the doubters wrong with a very entertaining return to the Premier League.

I beleive that the current squad is not good enough to get any higher than they did last season. We need a few new players to freshen up the squad and maybe influence us to get into europe. We don't have a natural goalscorer in the team and with Kevin Gameiro looking less and less likely to sign we need one desperatly. Shola Ameobi picks his games to perform in (like Sunderland) and doesn't exactly have a goalscoring reputation. Peter Lovenkrands chipped in with a few goals last season but in my eyes he isn't Premier League quality. When Leon Best played he got goals so I can't really complain and I hope to see him given alot more starts next season. So a forward with goalscoring pedigree is essential if we want to get anywhere next season.

I was concerned last season with the lack of quality on the bench. However Shane Ferguson was outstanding when he played. He's quick and has a fairly good delivery. Not many people will agree but i beleive he should be starting instead of Guttierez next season. Although Ferguson is young and doesn't have much experience at the top level someone needs to replace Guttierez. The only problems with this is that Guttierez has a good link with Enrique and this would be disrupted. Also we could sign someone better than both Ferguson and Guttierez with the money we have from the sale of Andy Carroll.

Last season i couldn't beleive it when i heard the news that Chris Hughton had lost his job and had been replaced by Alan Pardew who didn't really have an impressive track record. With some of the results Hughton got and the bond he had with the players most people, myself included thought Mike Ashley had lost his mind (if you didn't think this before). But Pardew came in and suprised us all with big results like the 3-1 win over Liverpool and the thrilling 4-4 comeback against Arsenal,he also stopped Sunderland getting their revenge for the 5-1 thrashing earlier on in the season, although Scumberland finished higher than Newcastle we had a much more entertaining season than them. Enough about the smb's i beleive Pardew had the same sort of effect as Hughton did on the squad if not a better one.

So all in all it was an exciting and unpredictable season for the toon. Next season we can go on to better things if we get the right players in and we can definitly finish higher than 5under1and.

Thanks for reading Very Happy
