Tremendous Competion in Midfield next season
Dan Gosling will spend some time at a world class fitness center in the US in the summer, to get himself 100% fit for the upcoming season.
Tim will then link up with Newcastle, when they start their three match US tour in July, and we’ll finally see the 21 year-old in action again for the side.
But with Johan Cabaye being signed soon, and Kevin Nolan, Cheick Tiote, Joey Barton, Alan Smith, Danny Guthrie, Jonas Gutierrez, Shane Ferguson and Ben Arfa all fighting it out across the midfield, you wonder where Dan will get a game.
Indeed the great Ben Arfa is coming back, and Alan Pardew says he will play him in the hole behind the main striker, so you wonder where captain Kevin Nolan will play, since he has played in that position the last couple of seasons and scored 30 goals for the side.
Alan Pardew hasn’t seen too much of Gosling, as he’s been recovering from a serious ACL knee injury for the last 15 months, but he’s a good player and Ben Arfa and Gosling should ensure the squad is a lot stronger next season.
Alan Pardew talked about the England U21 International today:
“Everybody tells me he’s a really good player, and I’m looking forward to seeing that for myself,”
“Dan has been really unfortunate with injuries and, because of that, I simply haven’t been able to see him play.”
“I know he has been working exceptionally hard to get fit, and I’m hoping that when we’re back for pre-season we’ll get a good chance to see what he can offer.”
“There’s no doubt that Dan has the potential to be a very important member of the squad,” said Pardew.
“It will certainly be great to have him available, because the reports from his Everton days are very impressive.”
Dan made one very short sub appearance at Sunderland last January, and Ben Arfa made 4 appearances, with one tremendous goal against Everton, before sustaining that double break of his left leg in early October.
Johan Cabaye is expected to sign for Newcastle last next week, after completing his international duties with France in Belarus last night in a European 2012 qualifier, and the French will then play Ukraine in Donetsk, and Poland in Warsaw next Monday and Wednesday.
France only drew 1-1 last night, and have allowed Belarus to take 4 points off them in their two games, Belarus having won 1-0 in France.
Cabaye wasn’t even on the bench last night for France.
Another Newcastle target, Kevin Gameiro did make the bench, and was brought on in the seocnd half as a replacement for Loic Remy.
Chelsea’s Florent Malouda got France’s equalizer just two minutes after Belarus had taken the lead, but it was another poor showing from the French side.
With wingers and strikers expected to arrive this summer on Tyneside, there will likely be tremendous competition for the four midfield positions next season at Newcastle, and of course that’s exactly what we want to see.
