Newcastle United captain Kevin Nolan rejects new deal
KEVIN Nolan has rejected a new deal from Newcastle United.
Nolan was offered a new contract a fortnight ago, but the terms fell short of what Nolan was looking for, and it has been turned down by his representative.
It was revealed last month that Nolan and the club were some way apart in their early negotiations.
The club will now decide whether to improve on its offer.
However, with Nolan still having two years left to run on his present deal, United could put discussions on hold.
And the latest development will be a concern for manager Alan Pardew, who was keen for Nolan, like Joey Barton before him, to agree a new long-term deal.
Pardew’s conscious of the potential destabilising effect a contract dispute with the 28-year-old, an influential figure on and off the field at St James’s Park, could have on his dressing room.
The news comes on the back of the controversial decision not to offer Nolan’s midfield colleague Barton a new deal.
That was met with dismay by Barton’s team-mates, and while Pardew’s focus is strengthening his squad, he’s also equally determined to keep the core of the team that served him last season intact.
Defender Danny Simpson has also been offered a contract extension.
For his part, Nolan – whose agent has been in discussions since March – had been keen for the deal to be done last month.
The former Bolton Wanderers player, a key figure in the club’s revival over the past two seasons, doesn’t want to leave Newcastle, but the development is said to have left him “upset and disillusioned”.
Meanwhile, Nile Ranger has reportedly been told he can leave St James’s Park this summer.
While doubtedly talented, the striker’s off-the-field discipline has been a concern to Pardew, as it was his predecessor Chris Hughton.

be gutted if he and barton both leave, it is a sign the club is moving backwards not forwards if your selling your best players
