Bruce sets his sights on Crouch

Post  1892NUFF on Thu May 26, 2011 11:06 pm

PETER CROUCH is a target for Sunderland boss Steve Bruce.

But Tottenham will do a deal only if they can recoup the £10m he cost them two years ago.

Bruce wants the experienced striker to help build on Sunderland's top 10 Premier League finish this season.

He has plenty of cash available from the £24m sale of Darren Bent to Aston Villa in January.

Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is willing to let Crouch, 30, go so he can add to his own squad this summer.

But White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy means to get back every penny of what he paid Portsmouth in July 2009.

Redknapp is keen to add a powerful new frontman to his team to help mount a renewed challenge on the top four in 2011-12.

He has been linked with French striker Kevin Gameiro, 24, of Lorient.

But he would be more tempted if Chelsea's Didier Drogba, 33, became available.

Crouch has struggled for a permanent place in the Spurs line-up but scored 12 goals in more than 40 starts and sub appearances this season.

He came close to joining Sunderland before opting for the Londoners.
