Toon target player-plus-cash deal for Celtic star

Post  1892NUFF on Tue Jun 14, 2011 2:03 am

Celtic captain Scott Brown has emerged as a surprise summer transfer target for Newcastle United according to the Daily Express.

The 25-year-old Scotland international midfielder is held in high regard in the North East, following favourable scouting reports from Magpies coach Steve Stone.

Stone was in Glasgow reportedly running the rule over Bhoys left-back Emilio Izaguirre, who has been consistently linked with a move away from Celtic Park this summer.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew has earmarked Izaguirre as a replacement for want-away defender Jose Enrique who looks set to leave St James' Park after stalling on a new deal.

However, Pardew has now added Hoops skipper Brown to his summer shopping list, after citing the need for 'big characters' to aid in the development of his Magpies squad.

Brown has made over 200 appearances for Celtic and has an established reputation as one of the best midfielders not only in Parkhead but in the whole of the SPL.

Newcastle maintain a strong relationship with Celtic after the successful completion of a season-long loan for goalkeeper Fraser Forster – a player that Hoops boss Neil Lennon would like to bring back to Celtic Park on a permanent basis.

The two clubs could open negotiations over the next few days, with Forster potentially forming part of a deal to entice Brown from Celtic to Tyneside this summer.

I haven't took much notice of him but if you say he's a good player then fair do's. I'd srtill love Charlie Adam at the club though, i think he would be a cracking signing and we could get him for about 7 million I think.
