Toon new boys snap up homes in Newcastle area Demba-ba-836654605

NEWCASTLE United hope home is where the heart is for their new foreign legion - after all three new arrivals bought properties in the area within 24 hours of signing up.

Despite only making whirlwind visits to the North East to sign their contracts Yohan Cabaye, Demba Ba and Sylvain Marveaux have all snapped up houses in the Newcastle area – something the club hope will help them make a flying start to life in black and white.

Taking it as a sign of their commitment to the cause, United also believe it will prevent any major upheaval when they return to the North East for pre-season training on July 4.

As well as boosting their European scouting network Newcastle have plunged funds into sharpening up their act when it comes to helping foreign arrivals settle quickly. And it seems to have paid off.

They helped the players find properties and will lay on English lessons for Cabaye, the only one of the trio who doesn’t boast fluent language skills.

Although he spoke through at interpreter at his unveiling, the midfielder has already pledged to carry out his next major interview in English.

Assistant boss John Carver says he is delighted at the fact they have splashed out on property in the area – believing it “shows their intentions”.

“What’s helped is that we’ve signed them on long-term contracts,” he said.

“The players are going to adjust their lifestyles and buy properties so they can settle in Newcastle. That can only help them on the field.

“When players come here and buy properties, it shows their intentions. These players want to play for this club.”
