Routledge to snub Swansea and QPR and join Sven at Leicester in £1.5m move

Post  1892NUFF on Tue Jul 12, 2011 12:39 am

Wayne Routledge is on the brink of joining Sven-Goran Eriksson’s revolution at big-spending Leicester.

Former England Under-21 international Routledge is in talks with the Foxes after Newcastle accepted a £1.5 million bid for their sought-after winger.

Routledge has been the subject of interest from a host of clubs this summer, including Premier League new boys QPR after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Loftus Road.

Another newly-promoted club, Swansea City, were also keen on the 26-year-old winger, while he has been linked with Championship trio Birmingham, Cardiff and Nottingham Forest.

But Leicester, who have been busy reinforcing their squad over the past couple of months in preparation for the promotion challenge demanded by their Thai owners, are confident of clinching a deal.

Eriksson has already signed ex-England striker David Nugent and splashed a club record £5.5 million to capture central defender Matt Mills from Reading.

He has also signed goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel, Lee Peltier, Neil Danns and Republic of Ireland international defender Sean St Ledger.

This lad promised so much but often failed to deliver for us, which is a shame because he could have made a name for himself at Newcastle if he had applied himself full on, on the pitch. Nver mind, there's plenty more fish in the sea.
