Pardew hoping to lure Bridge to Newcastle as questions remain over Enrique's future
Arsenal and Liverpool could firm up their interest in Newcastle left-back Jose Enrique as Alan Pardew chases a deal for Wayne Bridge.
The former England left-back is one of several players surplus to requirements at Manchester City, and would be available for a nominal fee.
And if the Magpies do pounce, it would leave a question mark over the future of first choice fullback Enrique.
Bridge would however have to agree to a significant cut to his £90,000-a-week wages to secure a move while he would appear to be at odds with the current transfer policy favoured by owner Mike Ashley, who prefers to sign players with potential sell-on value.
But a St James Park source told People Sport: 'We would definitely be interested in Bridge. He would be a valuable addition to our squad, whether or not we sell Jose. But he would have to show us he still wants to play football and take a drop in his wages.'
Newcastle are also ready to listen to offers for Alan Smith, who is in the last year of his contract and will not be offered a new one.
But Newcastle insist that they have had no offers for Smith, Enrique or Joey Barton, while long-serving hitman Shola Ameobi enters the final 12 months of his three-year deal with no progress on a new contract.
Pardew plans to play Ben Arfa up front with Demba Ba if his search for another striker proves fruitless.
