Football40
Did anyone watch this today?
- info here:
- Football40 has been designed:
• To permit competitive multi team tournaments to take place at a single venue;
• To promote a more open attacking style of play;
• To provide a format for play that will suit and allow for competitive matches within the “veterans” or “legends” market both at International and Club level;
• To provide former professionals with an opportunity to represent their countries at a competitive and public level;
Football40 is the perfect vehicle for a four-team tournament, allowing two semi-finals and a final to be played over a single three-hour event. It is also perfect for players whose fitness is not at the maximum levels.
In essence Football40 follows the rules of traditional football but with adaptations to complement the format and to encourage an attacking and exciting style of play.
Football40 rules include:
• Matches will be played for 20 minutes each way.
• Referees will add “penalty time” for incidents of time wasting.
• A player may only be deemed offside if he is between the goal line and the 30 yard line at the time the ball is passed.
• Referees and assistants will always give the benefit of doubt on marginal offside decisions to the attacking player.
• A yellow card shall signify the referee’s decision to send a player to the “sin bin”. A first yellow card is a penalty of 5 minutes with a second yellow card for the same player requiring a penalty of 10 minutes and so forth in increments of 5 minutes.
• A red card shall signify a sending off and require the player to leave the pitch.
• Each team may substitute a player at any time and a players may re-enter the field of play on a future substitution or be re-substituted.
• The 4th Official is responsible for managing substitutions.
• Referees can move free kicks ten yards forward if the opposing team shows dissent or fails to retreat 10 yards from the ball quickly enough.
• Short Corners - If a ball goes out for a corner within the 18 yard box the subsequent corner shall be taken from the corner of the 18 yard box.
• If a player makes a back pass to their goalkeeper from within the 18 yard box, the goalkeeper may pick up or handle the ball no matter which part of the players body passed the ball back to him.
