Newcastle United have confirmed that Ryan Taylor only suffered a minor injury in the 2-1 Premier League win over Aston Villa.

"Fortunately, Ryan Taylor did not sustain a fracture to his lower right leg which was X-rayed on Sunday afternoon," the club said.

"His injury is limited to soft tissue damage for which he is now receiving treatment from the club's medical team."

The wide player had been stretchered off after taking a heavy blow to the knee from Stephen Warnock while assisting Demba Ba's opening goal.

Striker Leon Best, however, is likely to be out for "a number of weeks" with his knee problem, according to the club.

Best limped off after 14 minutes of the game at the Sports Direct Arena and will have a scan on his knee on Tuesday.

His replacement, new signing Papiss Cisse, scored the winner.

Sunday's win moved Newcastle up to fifth in the Premier League, one point behind Chelsea in fourth.
