Classy Yohan Cabaye Having Medical At Newcastle

Yohan Cabaye is due on Tyneside right now, and having a medical and will them sign on to become Newcastle’s first capture this summer.


Newcastle are paying €5M (around £4.5M) for the player, and that’s because there is a release clause in the player’s contract at Lille.

And the news today is that the 25 year-old will be offered a 5 year deal at Newcastle for £30K/week, which is a fairly reasonable wage for these times – but good value for Newcastle.

Yohan picked up his 4th French cap last night when France beat Poland 1-0, and in seven seasons at Lille the 5’9″ box to box central midfielder appeared 253 times and scored 39 goals for the current French Champions, and he looks a very good player.

He seems like an excellent acquisition for the club, but it’s always hard to judge how well a player will perform in the top league in the world.

Yohan played for all the French youth sides (U16, U18, U19, U20 and U21), and had 15 caps at U21 level, so he seems to have an excellent pedigree, and getting him for 5M is a great deal by Newcastle.

We just have to hope two things happen – one is that more good players like Yohan come through the door.

And the seocnd thing, that’s just as important, is that Newcastle can also keep players like Kevin Nolan and Joey Barton on Tyneside – and if that happens Newcastle could well have an excellent squad come September.

Brilliant news this. Plus with Ben Arfa here as well, Cabaye won't feel out of place and it could also send out the right signals for us to maybe snatch one of the other French lads as well Gervinho or Gameiro.
