Steve Harper has warned his teammates not to take Brighton lightly ahead of this weekend's FA Cup clash.
The Magpies went out of last years competition at Stevenage and Harper, who had a brief spell at the south-coast club earlier this season, doesn't want to be making the headlines again as the latest victim of another FA Cup giant-killing.
"It's good draw - but a tough draw," he told The Shields Gazette.
"Brighton are very comfortable on the ball and play total football, and I can't see the ball being in the air much.
"They have two very good centre-backs and have a lot of strength elsewhere too. The Amex will be full and Brighton have nothing to lose.
"It'll be a lively atmosphere, but it will be up to us to stop Brighton on what will be a tough evening.
"When I was there they only scored one in five, and they've only recently picked up. It could be a cracking game."
Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has taken his squad to Tenerife for a few days warm-weather training to prepare for the game.
