Newcastle United's Tim Krul over the moon with Netherlands debut
Newcastle United shot stopper Tim Krul has expressed his delight after making his debut for Netherlands' senior side in Saturday's international friendly against Brazil.
National team coach Bert van Marwijk gave 23-year-old Krul the nod following the injury forced absence of Maarten Stekelenburg and Michel Vorm and the former ADO Den Haag starlet made some strong saves to help Oranje to a 0-0 draw.
"This is like a dream come true for me. Making your debut like this gives a fantastic feeling," Krul was quoted as saying by NOS.
"It was an amazing evening and I am very happy. It went really well, although I admit that I had some luck as well when Erik Pieters cleared a ball off the goal-line. Keeping a clean sheet against Brazil is quite something."
Krul is the 23rd player to make his Oranje debut under Van Marwijk. The successful coach previously introduced players such as Ajax's Gregory van der Wiel, Royston Drenthe (Real Madrid) and Chelsea defender Jeffrey Bruma into the national team.
