Alan Pardew relishing Newcastle United's pre-season USA tour
The facilities and competition will be excellent and the youngsters will get their chance to impress ahead of the new Premier League campaign, claims the Tyneside boss.
Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is relishing the prospect of the club’s pre-season tour in the USA and intends to give the squad’s youngsters an opportunity to impress.
The Tyneside club finished 12th in the Premier League after a successful promotion the season before and will be hoping to finish further up the table in the 2011-12 campaign.
The 49-year-old coach is not worried about players adjusting to temporary life in America and is pleased with the quality of competition and training facilities.
He told the club’s official website: "I know the facilities are top, top drawer. It's good and accessible for our fans to see us.
“The training conditions are perfect, the competition will be good, and importantly we can focus completely on our job without any distractions.
“The food, language and climate won't take any adjusting to and we can just get on with things.”
The side will face Kansas City [July 20], Orlando City [July 23] and Columbus Crew [July 26] during their spell Stateside and are planning on flying some of the squad’s youngsters over the Atlantic.
Teenagers Sammy Ameobi and Shane Ferguson are among the expected playing staff, and both made their top flight debuts for Newcastle last campaign.
Manager Pardew has said he intends to give the club’s youth an opportunity to make an impression on him in pre-season ahead of the new season.
“It's massive for them. They've got to make a breakthrough if not this year then the following season," he added.
"They've positioned themselves well and the pre-season will be important for them to knock on the door, and we'll see what happens.”
